Title The truth about the quality of online survey data
Author Mourad, B.

Abstract This paper examines the extent to which research findings from on-line surveys can be used to generalize to the online population or general public. It is demonstrated that online panels are typically not conducted with a representative sample of respondents, even though recent tests have demonstrated that the results of such studies are quite accurate. Thus, while such studies do not have statistical validity, they often have pragmatic functions for marketers and decision-makers. An alternative online methodology is discussed which does provide a representative sample and can be generalized to the population as a whole.
